Trackrod Rally Yorkshire set for 2024 edition

Outline details have been unveiled for the 2024 edition of Trackrod Rally Yorkshire (27/28 September), one of the most significant gravel rallies in the UK.

This year’s event is a round of the Protyre BTRDA Rally Series and the Fuchs Motorsport UK British Historic Rally Championship as well as eight other championships and will broadly follow the successful format used in 2023.

One significant change for 2024 is that the event organisers hope to remove most of the chicanes that have traditionally featured in the Yorkshire forests. Recent rule changes from Motorsport UK have increased the average permitted speed for gravel stages and the Trackrod organisers hope to put the change to good effect.

Rod Parkin, Trackrod Rally Yorkshire Clerk of Course said: “We’re going to take advantage of the increase in the overall average speeds and we’re excited at the prospect of removing the majority of the chicanes. We hope the stages will now flow better for competitors and should be even more rewarding to drive. Our aim is to only use chicanes for safety reasons.”

The highly regarded event is among the best organised rallies on the UK calendar and will retain a compact route starting and finishing in Filey and taking in all single-use stages on gravel. The Trackrod will mark the only visit of the season to the classic Yorkshire forest stages in the Dalby complex.

The Trackrod Historic Cup, running over nearly 60 stage miles, is round nine of the Fuchs British Historic Rally Championship. The Historic Cup will open with a 12-mile stage in Dalby Forest in the dark on Friday evening. Running over 45 stage miles will be Saturday’s Trackrod Forest Stages, the penultimate round of the Protyre BTRDA Rally Series.

Other championships that are part of the event are the REIS Motorsport UK English Rally Championship, the Motoscope Northern Historic Rally Championship, the ANECCC SG Petch Stage Rally Championship, ANCC Stage Rally Championship, the ANWCC Forest Rally Championship, the TCS Plant Rally Challenge and the MINI Rally Challenge.

Parkin said: “We had a fabulous entry in 2023 and we’ve retained a similar format for 2024. The rally will start at 7pm from the Beach Road on Filey sea front when there will be an excellent opportunity for spectators to meet the crews and see the cars at close hand. On Saturday, the rally will re-start from NY500 Café near Pickering.”

Regulations will be published on 1 August and entries will open soon afterwards. There will be a window of several days for entries to be completed, this avoiding any rush for placing entries.
